BT Sport COO Jamie Hindhaugh revealed the green accomplishment at the Broadcast Sport Tech Innovation Forum
BT Sport has halved its carbon footprint when producing Premier League matches, according to COO Jamie Hindhaugh.
Since the resumption of sport after the Covid-19 postponements, much of the matchday production has had to move to remote working – and this has had an impressive effect on its sustainability.
Speaking at the Broadcast Sport Tech Innovation Forum on Wednesday, Hindhaugh revealed to attendees that: “Our carbon footprint has halved in the Premier League.”
As well as the environment, it also had benefits for workers: “Sustainability, work life balance, and opportunity, remote does all of those.”
In addition, he added that the move to remote production had been accelerated by almost four years by this year’s lockdowns.
“The Premier League was on my four year roadmap, but because it was so difficult it was last,” said Hindhaugh. “So, we delivered our four year plan in five weeks.”
BT Sport has made sustainability a major goal, having joined BAFTA’s Albert initiative earlier this year. The scheme measures broadcasters’ carbon footprint with the Albert calculator, and aims to eliminate waste and carbon emissions in the screen industry.
